Mrs X
Australian Script Centre, 1992
90 minutes; 5 female, 2 male

Mrs X has Alzheimer’s Disease. Her condition has been kept a secret by her husband. He has managed this by anticipating her forgetfulness and odd behaviour by covering for her when necessary. Over the past few years they have rarely socialised and have seen little of the rest of the family. He has been by her side constantly and she has become dependant upon his care. After suffering a stroke, Mrs X’s husband has just died, and the family is gathered for his funeral. This is a black comedy about an elderly lady who has Alzheimer’s Disease, and the effect this has on her, her family and the community.

Behind the Play
Australian Script Centre, 1993
110 minutes; 6 female, 3 male
The story behind the scenes of an AFL football club is based on Marita’s personal experiences when married to Carlton champion Ian Roberston during a golden era for the club. Lynette is a reporter trying to get the inside information about the club by seducing one of the players. When she is attacked by another player, she decides to use the attack for her own benefit. And so the deals begin. The play investigates the relationships between the players, their wives and girlfriends, as they are manipulated and controlled by the politics of the club. The racist element around the Aboriginal character is the hard centre to the play.
